Sustainable Design

The aim of Sustainable, or Green, Design is to create buildings, products and services that reduce negative impacts on the environment and on the health and comfort of building occupants.  By reducing the reliance on fossil fuels needed to heat, cool, power and light our buildings, the Sustainable Design philosophy can help reduce the consumption of non-renewable resources, minimize waste, and create healthy, productive environments that comply with economic, social and ecological sustainability.

The U.S. Green Building Council has developed the LEED certification program as a standard measure of a project's green features.  LEED is a points-based system where building projects earn LEED points for satisfying specific green building criteria.  The number of points a project earn determines the level of LEED Certification the project receives.  LEED certification is available in four progressive levels that range from Certified (40-49 points) to Platinum (80 points and above).   Ohio Valley Supply is proud to contribute to Sustainable Design by offering several surfacing products that can contribute to LEED points.

Corian® Terra Collection

The Corian® Terra Collection contributes to Sustainable Building Design by having exceptional durability and extended life cycles, offering a beautiful and cost-effective surface with the added value of reduced waste.  Corian® solid surfaces are also easily renewable, maintaining their original appearance for many years.  The Terra Collection includes 25 gorgeous shades that are certified by the Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) to contain at least 6% pre-consumer recycled content.  The Terra Collection can also help contribute toward U.S. Green Building Council LEED®  points for Materials and Resources (MR) Building Reuse, MR Materials Reuse, MR Regional Materials, and Environmental Quality Low Emitting Materials - Adhesives and Sealants.

Like all Corian® solid surfaces, the Terra Collection is long-lasting and renewable, nontoxic and nonallergenic to humans, and  GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified® and GREENGUARD for Children & Schools Certified®.  Corian® is third-part certified to be free of heavy metals and are also NSF/ANSI 51 Certified for food contact.

Zodiaq® Terra Collection

The natural beauty and durability of quartz meets the easy care and sustainability of the Zodiaq® Terra Collection.  This collection includes 8 stunning colors that are created with at least 25% post consumer recycled content.  Like the Corian® Terra Collection, these colors are third-party certified for their recycled content and they are GREENGUARD Certified for Indoor Air Quality and for use with Children & Schools.  The Zodiaq® Terra Collection can also help contribute toward U.S. Green Building Council LEED® points for Materials and Resources (MR) Building Reuse,  MR Regional Materials, Environmental Quality (EQ) Low Emitting Materials - Adhesives and Sealants.  

Like all Zodiaq® colors, the Terra Collection is nontoxic and nonallergenic to humans and is NSF/ANSI Standard 51 Certified for food contact.

TorZo™ Surfaces

TorZo™ Surfaces are the ideal materials to use for building projects that are trying to highlight sustainability.  This unique line of products contains a high percentage of recycled content in the form of sustainable composite boards that have been infused with a polymer that give the boards a beautiful color and added hardness.  There are four products in the TorZo™ line, each one made from a different type of recycled material, and all TorZo™ Surfaces are formaldehyde-free.  The Indure™ line is created using 65% FSC certified recycled medium density fiber board, and the Orient™ line uses 75% post industrial recycled SFI oriented strand board.  The Seeta™ and Durum™ lines are created using recycled agricultural by-products, with Seeta™ using 70% post agricultural recycled sunflower seed shells and Durum™ using 70% post agricultural recycled wheat stalks.  TorZo™ Surfaces can contribute toward U.S. Green Building Council LEED® points in the Environmental Quality and Material and Resources categories - please see the following charts for more details.
